About
I'm Matt Winter. I build and run products, and I write about why some companies win and most don't.
For the last ten years I've worked in product at Uber, Revolut, and a run of fintech startups, mostly on payments: the plumbing that moves money between a card and a business, the economics underneath it, and the partnerships that decide who actually gets to sell it. These days I lead product for the core payments business at a UK acquirer.
Outside work I'm South African, live in Wapping in East London with my wife and two cats, and spend too many weekends in hybrid fitness races.
This site is a record. The writing is about ideas: AI, venture, commerce, and the operating decisions that separate the companies that compound from the ones that stall. The projects are what comes out of it, and the library is what I'm reading to get there.
